Very Young Babies (6 – 12 months)
In this class, we use a variety of fruit, vegetable and other foodstuff-based ‘paints’ to gently introduce babies to different colours and textures. Most of our paints are home-prepared fine purees and therefore completely natural. Occasionally we also use guaranteed-safe, non-toxic commercial fingerpaints to achieve a greater variety of pigments.
Each session has a loose theme, which is introduced in a greeting circle and then explored through two or three painting activities. Babies are encouraged to experiment with the materials and to proceed at their own pace.

Graphic Babbling for Toddlers (18 months to 3 years) and Toddlers Plus (pre-school age, Saturdays)
From 18 months onwards, children have increasing dexterity, enabling them to start enjoying painting media such as brushes or stampers, and understanding of instructions, which is reflected in the projects we do in the Toddler class. The creative process itself is deemed just as important as the eventual outcome, and we strive to provide a wide variety of sensory and fine-motoric experiences to the participating children.
Safe, commercial fingerpaints are used alongside the home-prepared paints of the baby workshops to provide a greater variety of activities, and we bring inspiration from the cycle of seasons, as well as music and rhymes, to the sessions. Every course has a loose educational theme, and each session approaches that theme from a different angle. We actively source more organic materials 'outside the box' to remind families about the creative potential of everyday objects - such as printing with stampers carved out of potato, or introducing frozen paints for a multi-sensory painting experience.
Our approach is child-orientated and creativity-nurturing in that children are actively encouraged to try out new media and to proceed at their own pace. Parental supervision and presence is required throughout to promote safety and a sense of ‘doing together’.
